When You Would Hear A Talk About Committing “Secret Sins” How Did You React?

it seemed as if every year a talk would be given in the congregation or at a convention about “secret sins”.

very predictably, witnesses would have pangs of conscience and confess their secret sin.. back in the 70s, one sister with an unbelieving mate went to the elders to confess about husband and her engaging in oral sex.

she was privately reproved for her “sin” and every so often would approach the elders to say she slipped up again.. i know i’d never tell anybody about my sex life just because of misguided guilt.

This is why religion is so bad for people. It always wants to keep you servile, that is lowly and pleasing others all of the time instead of doing your own thing. Who gets anywhere by becoming a drudge or dogsbody? I'll tell you what, you will become a faithful and discreet slave that's what, where so much patting on your head has left a bald spot.

A recurring theme of the scriptures show that it is desirable to be crushed at heart since then you feel dependent on "spiritual" things-- actually invisible help from invisible beings. It's a confidence trick by those in charge!

Yes what a real blessing Adam's sin was! Not only a ringside seat in heaven for some but all those billions who have had the privilege of dying from nasty painful diseases in order for a spirit ruler to show the world just who is in charge. Jehovah sounds like an insecure bully who wants revenge. None of it adds up.

If you base your life on fairy stories how can you expect to know anything or understand anything? If you can't see that Adam and Eve is a simple creation myth then you still have an awful lot of growing up to do.

And if there was no Adam-- there could be no "second Adam"-- it is very straightforward.

Humans have been on the Earth for 300,000 years. Will Jesus' sacrifice cover our earliest ancestors and how about Neanderthals who interbred with humans--and Homo heidelbergensis and Homo erectus? Where would you draw the line??

One of the points of conventions: obedience training

i think a lot these days about people who train you to be obedient without telling you that's what they're doing.

the thought occurred to me that that could be part of the idea of regional conventions.

it's not like they present much of anything new to the audience, it's the same old talks year after year, the same old information, yeah, repackaged a little, different themes, different illustrations, but the same information, obey the faithful slave, armageddon is imminent, go door-to-door, the usual.

J.P I entirely agree with you.The skill of the GB developed over many years is all about keeping their workers inside the cult compound.

To do this, from long experience and through the repetitive and droning assembly talks they create, firm up and hone the lobotomised flock to serve the interests of the leadership.

The ideal JW is given an overriding spiritual hope which enables him or her to cavalierly dispense with reason-- reasoning and questioning is of course from Satan! Common sense and any facts contrary to the JW teachings are dismissed because they might cause one to think objectively or move away from the brotherhood and lose out at Big A. Another ideal quality is for the individual to be mentally lazy but prepared instead to hear complimentary things about their loyalty to their chosen religion.

He or she has already put all their eggs, so to speak, in the one JW basket thinking that whatever happens or whatever non-believers say, they must be doing the right thing, after all, they imagine they have in their possession the only ticket to paradise!

The assembly message for the last five or six years is simple: Don't think; obey!

It is the perfect recipe to make slaves out of people.

Its been 2000 years now since Jesus Christianity was Established and now today we have 40000 + Christian sects ?

emperor constantine might have got the message 17 centuries ago but surely god must by now realize that the mission has failed .?.

surely he should as he has on past experience in the old testament now approach a world leader of either the usa ,england ,russia ,china ,or the united nations or even israel and make his judgement`s known .?.

why has he been so quiet all of these years ?

It is truly mind boggling to grasp the enormity and the endurance of the Jesus-will-save-you scam.

Billions taken in by it over a period of nearly two thousand years and not one of them "saved". Not one Christian has ever overcome death as they had been promised. Islam's paradise is equally elusive.

It's time for humankind to relegate these infantile beliefs to our nursery period and grow up.

so my husband who was not attending meetings for the last four months, went to the special talk, the memorial and the meeting today.

he said he feels jehovah’s spirit is back and that they are all being so kind.. i am just sick to my stomach.

In the UK the figure is now 53% claiming no religion according to the Independant newspaper. Religious attendance is around 4% in England as I recall from about four years ago

When we leave the cult sometimes to start with we still hang on to some of the ideas which have helped us in the past, it is perfectly normal. Changing our minds to become self determined in what we do is unfamiliar and we learn to adjust to the new way of thinking, not running on the old tram rails our old religion taught us.

Thinking for ourselves outside of other peoples laws and rules is more rewarding.
